0 Position Description The Health, Environmental & Safety (HES) Coordinator provides support to manufacturing operations to ensure that all practices are in compliance with internal, local, state and federal regulations.
This includes coordinating regulatory programs and permitting applications as well as the development, implementation, training and coordination of all facets of the company's safety program.
In addition to HES responsibilities, this position will manage all facets of the company's ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) in conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer.
Educational Requirements High School Diploma:
Mandatory Undergraduate Degree in one of the following:
Environmental Science Occupational Health & Safety Industrial Technology Chemistry Engineering Graduate Degree:
Not required Environmental Responsibilities Ensure that company policies adhere to all local, state and federal regulations.
Supervise and coordinate all internal environmental programs to ensure compliance with Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) regulations.
Perform all responsibilities of the company's CT DEEP wastewater permit requirements, such as water sample testing, Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs) and data management.
Perform all responsibilities and routine inspections of the company's Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP).
Train employees as needed.
Manage all waste profiles, such as:
industrial landfill waste, containerized waste, used oil, garbage/recycling, etc.
, with the goal of reducing cost and quantity of waste.
Create and submit annual Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 2 Chemical Inventory and Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) to all applicable local and state authorities.
Health & Safety Responsibilities Manage, develop and implement all applicable health & safety programs to ensure the company's operations, training requirements and procedures are in accordance with local, state (CONN-OSHA) and federal (OSHA) regulations.
Foster a safe work environment and ensure that all procedures/practices are in compliance with company and OSHA regulations - such as Lock Out/Tag Out, Hazard Communication, Ergonomics, Emergency Action Plans, Hearing Conservation and Respiratory Protection.
Manage OSHA recordkeeping (OSHA Forms 300 & 301) of recordable injuries/illnesses and submit/report to authorities as required.
Train and coach employees to utilize safe work practices that will contribute to a safer work environment - including the effective use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Manage the company's Hazard Communication program - ensuring all chemicals are labeled appropriately, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available and all employees have been properly trained.
Research dust control applications and make improvement recommendations to the Chief Operating Officer.
Provide HES orientations for all new employees and site visitors (as applicable).
Manage inspections by external regulatory agencies (ex:
OSHA, CT DEEP) and coordinate corrective actions to ensure deficiencies are corrected in a timely manner.
Coordinate the monthly Safety Committee, document meeting notes/agenda, assign corrective actions and discuss opportunities for improvement with the company's leadership team.
Manage occupational injuries, perform risk analysis, identify root cause and assign corrective actions.
Manage Worker's Compensation claims in conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer.
